now, that said, i had written a program (adzero) a couple of years back that would get rid of the ad banner for netzero. eventually the friendly folks at netzero updated their software and the previous versions of my adzero patch would not work with it. actually it seemed to have mixed results. if you want to download it and try it for kicks, you can download it here. anyway, so there's good news and there's bad news as a result of this. the bad news is this, i don't plan on writing an new versions of adzero anytime soon. the good news is that i know how to get rid of the ad banner on the new version. actually i haven't tested this since they partnered up with juno but it should still work. i'll have to check that out, but in the meantime here we go:

tools required: netzero (latest version) ,an archiving utility like winzip or winrar , and about 2 minutes of your precious time

right, let's get going.

1. install netzero

2. locate the c:\program files\netzero\lib\zcast1_6.zip file

3. unzip the contents to a temp folder

4. locate the \nzcom\nzwindow.class file in the temp directory

5. rename this file (don't delete) to something else like nzwindow.class.old

6. zip the files back up into a file named zcast1_6.zip

7. rename the original zcast1_6.zip and replace it with the 'new' one that you've created

8. start up netzero, get connected, and you'll be left with the little nz window in the middle of the screen. This window can now be moved to the very lower right hand corner of the screen so that it's barely noticeable and any window that you bring up will stay on top of this little window. that's pretty much it. it's not as clean of a workaround as what i've done previously but it works. i may come up with a program to automate this task or come up with a better way to do it, but don't count on it anytime soon. if you have any questions, you know where to find me ...
